Building a local eBook RAG service using Gemma4
I wanted to build a RAG so I can ask my LLM questions on eBook content.
I started my research with this very good and on-point tutorial, which helped a lot to understand the wiring:
But I wanted to read epubs, not wikipedia and use only local models, not pay for OpenAI tokens.
A model I find intriguing recently is gemma-4-e4b.
So I rebuilt the scripts from the tutorial with that goal. Disclaimer: I used Claude Code.
