Link Diary November 2022

Videos, articles and other links I stumbled upon in November 2022, which I want to remember and share.

Civilization Proton version without 2K Launcher

With the new release in the last week of November, Civ6 got downgraded on Linux and cannot be played in multiplayer with Windows Version of the Game … until a Fix is provided by Aspyr. A solution is to switch on the Proton support and basically play the Windows version. But there the 2K Launcher causes startup issues.

Game parameters to skip that launcher:

eval $( echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Base\/Binaries\/Win64Steam\/CivilizationVI.exe'/" )

Civilization multiplayer sync issues?

Clear the cache before you start the game. That is on Linux:

cd ~/.local/share/aspyr-media/Sid\ Meier\'s\ Civilization\ VI/
rm -rf Cache Logs

Software Freedom Conservancy

Wasn't aware there's a platform that takes care of Open Source projects until they are ready to sustain themselves … as Godot just did recently.

The Fediverse

Social Media without big corporations? Yes! It's the Fediverse. Many Open Source solutions that everyone can host connecting to one large Social Media network.

Base technology: ActivityPub, the protocol to publish and distribute content.
